MINDSET

Growing up dyslexic, I quickly discounted myself from ever being a writer or earning a college degree — and yet here I am. This woman got me back to college a third time. The difference? Grit. The most talented people often do nothing with their gifts. But those of us with grit — we show up until we get it right.

Talk about a powerhouse. I don’t know that I will ever employ my mind the way David does, but I do know I’m using it a whole lot more because of his message.

Tiffany is one of my favorite comedians and mindset experts. Her ability to create a winning mindset given her early years — OMG.
And she impacts yours while you’re laughing, and you don’t even see it coming.

I found Kelly Howell’s CDs at Borders — praying in the parking lot for something under $20 that would help me. Relentless headaches after my fifth child. Doctors found nothing. My inner compass led me to her. That first night with headphones on, sounds moved through different parts of my brain while a powerful woman’s voice guided me through. It was winter. I was cold. Just from her breathing exercises — my extremities became warm. Kelly Howell didn’t just help my headaches. She opened a door I didn’t know existed.

He’s the first real scientist about the power of our beliefs I ever read and I ate it all up. It was liberating and hopeful to learn I was not chained to my family’s history of strokes. That I had choice and that I am capable of sailing my own ship. What’s more? After reading his book — the anchor was weighed.

I first saw Beau Lotto at the Powerful-U Conference in Salt Lake City, November 2018. He rewired how I see everything. Six months later I interviewed him for my podcast, Loving the F.  Some conversations leave a mark. This one left a blueprint.

This book is impossible to put down once you pick it up. He’s relatable, vulnerable and clear on who he is and who he isn’t. Even so, he’s not afraid to make some changes. It inspired me to write my own “10 goals for life.”

I first heard William’s commencement speech while I was in college. It taught me to have systems in place to support me and my goals. Systems as simple as making your bed. I rarely miss making my bed these days – thank you, Admiral.

I owe running for the Society of Professional Journalism’s Director at-Large in 2017, applying for a fellowship at Stanford (though not qualifications) and talking to strangers to Mel. All of which have changed and improved upon my life.

I love this book. It reminded me of my father’s teachings — work hard, be resourceful, figure it out and don’t quit. Have a vision. And everyone has a story — don’t let yours keep you down. Who knew?

I found myself in the first page of this book. So relatable, enlightening, gentle yet direct. Filled with lots of wisdom and tools – worth reading over and again.
